Our client lives amidst important pieces of twentieth century design. The renowned Parisian designer and antiquaire Florence Lopez, has composed an assemblage of Scandinavian, Italian and Brazilian decor in her eclectic yet unpretentious signature mode. One of the pieces that just couldn't be found, was an office cabinet. It had to fit into a small niche, behind a desk in the study section of the open, loft-like living area.

We were tasked to design a piece, that integrated well with the surrounding, beautifully patinated furniture and didn't stand out as being new. Rather than developing a built-in for the niche, we opted for a stand alone cabinet, that seems to fit by chance. Two Rosewood planks flank a file cabinet at the bottom, a marble display case and open shelving. The file cabinet is concealed by a linen covered tambour sliding down. The marble carrying the ship model is carved from one piece of Bardiglio marble, resembling the open sea and the shelves are held by custom brass clamps. Nothing in use is off the rack, all hardware and mechanisms are custom made.
