Services

We offer comprehensive design services to private and commercial clients, in Berlin and abroad. On international projects we act as design lead, in close collaboration with local teams. For clients relocating to Germany, we offer turnkey solutions – consulting from initial viewings to white-glove delivery.

Architecture

We believe that architecture should be developed at a human scale and from within. How does someone live in a building? What are their routines? Where should one connect with the outside and where should one be shielded.

Similar to the power of art, space can be created to evoke emotion. A view can be framed. Architecture enlivens as a composition of closed and open spaces, manipulating light to serve a purpose. Materials form a deep connection through touch. Scale and volume have great impact on our senses.

The interior is ultimately most experienced by the future residents and therefore deserves the most attention. Nonetheless, the exterior should be more than just a mere stamp of the interior on its shell. Sculpting a well proportioned facade means reevaluating interior proposals and finding the best solution to mutually benefit the inside and out. A buildings exterior should reveal it’s underlying intentions and aesthetic opinions and act as a communicator to the outside.

Even though we almost exclusively work on interior commissions, we are architects by education and approach. Our focus lies in developing a well informed design concept in close dialogue with our clients. This focus remains throughout the entire process. We stay involved to review working drawings by all involved planners and engineers and aid the construction supervisors to ensure that aesthetic principles are upheld and expectations and goals are met.

We mostly work within existing structures as we face a densely built local environment but are always enthusiastic about designing stand alone proposals for clients looking to engage in the process.

Interior Design

We develop clean and clutter-free floor plans that allow for fluidity within room groupings and shield private from public spaces. We craft integrated, meaningful interior concepts ranging from detailed room layouts and built-in furniture arrangements to stand-out bath and kitchen designs.

Interior design serves as the essential bridge between architecture and décor, implementing both structural planning and nuanced material compositions. Ideally, the interior evolves alongside the architecture, each informing the other, to manifest a coherent dialogue of functionality and aesthetic gesture. More often than not, however, the process starts by analysing an existing structure. Establishing the intended purpose and rethinking the concept for an existing space is, in essence, navigating limitations and finding solutions that seamlessly blend the old and the new. A thorough understanding of what was offers the toolkit for what will be, and treating this toolkit as foundational is the best way to create something authentic.

While our studio also works on small commercial projects, our focus lies on elaborate residential commissions. We set out by gaining a deep understanding of our clients’ way of life and how our work can best serve their daily routines. What should life be like in the new setting? How can our design help manifest what works for our clients, and how can it support them in their aspirations? In keeping with the new layout of the space, we put together a material palette for floors, walls and ceilings, as well as a complementing assortment of hardware, fixtures and appliances. We adhere to the idea of architectural humanism and believe that touch is the most important way to connect to one’s home. We prioritise the use of natural materials like wood, natural stone, and metals, embracing the beauty of time and wear.

Décor

Our aim is to create spaces that feel lived-in, grown over time, and collected rather than staged. In order to channel and refine the interior design, comprehensive furniture compositions help reveal and emphasise the unique character of a space.

Like in photography, certain pieces may be more in focus than others. Some are the central subject while others provide a nuanced context. The key lies in finding the right balance between humble and extravagant pieces, between loud and quiet, while allowing a space to keep developing over time.

Taking into account the layout and existing materials, we select pieces to best reflect or complement the intended light and colour schemes. The immediate interaction between resident and object should result in a sensual experience of the space.

Our clients share an astute understanding of materiality and lighting and are committed to timelessness over fleeting trends. They know that a cultivated interior is the result of a refined composition of different materials, different epochs and different price points, and are willing to keep an open mind and not be too rigorous in the process. Our thorough understanding of both archival and contemporary design ensures a well-balanced, truly one-of-a-kind result.

We work with vintage pieces and contemporary small-batch furniture. Our network of makers allows us to develop bespoke commissions and reinterpretations “in the manner of” important archival pieces by 20th-century masters. We propose materials that age well, such as linen, patinated metals, leather, corduroy, brass and steel. We favour pieces made by the human hand over those produced en masse on a constantly optimised production line. Handmade objects bear the undeniable traces of a human fingerprint, allowing connections to be formed and stories to be told.
