Island House

Our clients came to us, having found this amazing plot on the water located on Rügen, in the Baltic Sea. Being a four hour drive from Berlin, it just still works as a weekend home, for the small family to escape the city.

The existing structure was so marode, that most of it had to be torn down, and the consensus was to rebuild in wood.

We wanted to create a humble and unpretentious barn like house, that opens up fully to the view.

The facade is flanked with pine wood planks, treated with fire in the traditional japanese Yakisugi technique.

The house has two levels. The top floor hosts a small open living area, with a kitchen island that also works as a dining counter and a sitting space with a fire place. A study doubles as a guest room with a sofa bed and has direct access to to the upstairs bathroom.

The lower level offers two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The primary suite offers a bathtub by the window for rainy autumn days spent inside.
